Grower: Connie's Cornucopia - Back in Time Farm LLC
Price: $11.00 ( 1.50-1.59 lbs. )
Available (Estimated): 7
These Soy Free "Certified Naturally Grown" Back in Time birds are locally grown in Barrow county on the "Back in Time" family farm. They are provided an Organic feed supplemented with locally grown Organic wheat and locally grown Organic corn and watered with reclaimed rain water to produce a delicious, healthy and clean chicken for your family. Our chickens are very happy because they live in bottomless portable chicken tractors out in the fields with fresh air and sunlight and are moved every day to new grass and bugs. They are never given antibiotics, growth hormones or chlorine from a city water system. These chickens are tender, juicy and full of flavor for your family to enjoy. The chickens are processed at a USDA, Certified animal welfare and humane treatment facility in South Carolina. The chickens have been tested by a leading research scientist in the food sciences department at the University of Ohio and found to be 100% soy free. Check out the Back In Time Farm growers photo page for documentation and details. Thank you for trusting us to be your pastured poultry provider. We take it seriously. Bill & Ruth

Organic Pasture Raised Ground Chicken. Our ground chicken is made from our drumsticks. There are no preservatives or other additives. Our birds are Certified Organic, Pasture-Raised, and are the best of the best flavor-wise. We are a small farm that is dedicated to respectfully raising animals in the cleanest, healthiest, and most environmentally conscious way possible. Taste what chicken is meant to be. WHAT IS PASTURED POULTRY, AND WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT? Conventional chicken that you find at a grocery store is raised inside a large barn. Some of these chickens (often labeled "free range") have access to a mud patch outside, but they mostly live inside the barn. These birds have no access to grass, insects, and seed. They are fed 100% grain diets. They have little to no exposure to sunlight and fresh air. Conventional chicken is often preventatively administered antibiotics because their environment (living in manure) is so disease-ridden. Our chicken is pasture-raised, meaning that our chickens live in mobile shelters OUTSIDE, and are moved DAILY to fresh pasture. They have constant fresh air, sunshine exposure, and the ability to move freely and scratch and peck as nature intended. Because of this environment, our birds are healthy and extremely nutrient-dense. Our birds don't need antibiotics or other medicines, because they are living in a fresh, clean pasture environment. Pastured poultry also offers a buttery, delicious TRUE CHICKEN FLAVOR. We like to tell folks that they haven't really tasted chicken until they eat ours. Environmentally speaking, pastured poultry is extremely beneficial. Conventional chicken farms often produce a significant amount of runoff, as the birds live in a stationary building, with manure piled upon manure. Pastured poultry leave a thin layer of manure as they move daily, regenerating the soil as they go. Not only do our birds nourish our bodies when we eat them, they nourish the soil as they are raised. WHY AM I PAYING MORE FOR ORGANIC? WHAT'S WRONG WITH NON-GMO FED POULTRY? We are both USDA Certified Organic and Real Organic Project Certified. Many farms call their operations "beyond organic" or "all natural" because they don't use pesticides or antibiotics on their farm. This is misleading, because many of those same farms feed their animals non-GMO or conventional feed. The only feeds that are absolutely pesticide/herbicide free are ORGANIC. Non-GMO feeds include grain that are usually sprayed with large amounts of pesticides/herbicides. You are what you eat, as they say. Organic feed is more expensive, and our prices do reflect this. But, in our opinion, health is worth the extra cost. Cooking a large whole chicken for your family costs around $50, with leftovers. Think about how much is spent on eating out, makeup, toys, etc. It is so important to invest in your health and the environment, and eating pasture-raised organic chicken is one way to do that. WHY FEED CORN & SOY? Chickens and turkeys need a balanced diet of protein and carbohydrates. It is a misconception that chickens/turkeys can sustain themselves off of only grass and bugs. Chickens & turkeys are monogastric omnivores. While they do get some calories from insects and seeds, it isn't enough to sustain them. Because they don't have rumens, they can't digest grass effectively like cows and sheep. Corn, soy, and other legumes like peas & alfalfa are commonly used in animal feed. Many take issue with corn and soy because they are commonly bioengineered plants that are heavily sprayed with pesticides. Our feed is certified organic, meaning the corn, soy, and other grains in our feed have NEVER been sprayed with toxic pesticides and they are also non-GMO. Some take issue with soy because it contains phytoestrogens (naturally-occurring estrogen-like compounds). Soy is the major protein source in animal feed. Other protein alternatives either also contain phytoestrogens (other legumes) or they have negative ecological impacts and off-putting flavors (fish meal). Phytoestrogens are not an issue unless you are directly consuming high levels (think, drinking soy milk daily.) Eating chicken that has eaten soy will not have any effect on your estrogen levels.

100% Organic/FREE RANGE/Gluten Free/Dairy Free/Grain Free NO ARTIFICIAL TRANS FAT/PALEO FRIENDLY. WHOLE 30 Approved. Shelf Stable for 1 Year. If you don't know Schmaltz you are about to enter a whole new world of delicious cooking. No joke. Chicken Schmaltz has been used in Eastern Europe for generations and we are proud to bring this incredible Organic Free Range Chicken Fat to you! Nothing really compares to Chicken Fat Schmaltz. It has the richness of duck fat but with a milder and more aromatic flavor. Schmaltz adds complexity to a variety of dishes that you simply cannot reproduce any other way. Schmaltz is a joy to cook with and is the easiest way to add depth and complexity to leafy vegetables, stir-fries, pan-fried steaks, fish, poultry, soups, stews, baked goods, and for a special treat spread it right on a piece of bread like you would a high-quality butter or fine olive oil. It's no exaggeration to say Schmaltz gives potatoes and other root vegetables a flavor that is beyond anything most of us have experienced. If potatoes could talk to schmaltz they would say, "You complete me!" Fatworks Chicken Schmaltz is made with 100% Organic Free-Range Chicken (which isn't easy to find!) and is rendered with the typical care and passion that you would expect from Fatworks. If you would like to learn more about the joys of cooking with schmaltz we recommend that you pick up a copy of Michael Rulhman's quintessential book on schmaltz entitled, "The Book of Schmaltz-A Love Song to A Forgotten Fat." And yes we know that so some a "true schmaltz" must be rendered chicken fat cooked in onions with salt (and preferably by your grandmother). Not everyone loves onions so our schmaltz is an unseasoned version, but if you are a purist and you wish to make the schmaltziest schmaltz that you could ever possibly schmaltz with, we recommend that you pour your Fatworks' Organic Free Range Chicken Fat in a pan, add some diced onions, salt, and sautée until the onions caramelize and then strain the fat into a container and put in the fridge to solidify. Voilà!." This is misleading, because many of those same farms feed their animals non-GMO or conventional feed.

Our chickens are Certified Organic, Pasture-Raised, and are the best of the best flavor-wise. We are a small farm that is dedicated to respectfully raising animals in the cleanest, healthiest, and most environmentally-conscious way possible. Taste what chicken is meant to be. Each package includes two leg quarters (2 quarters with leg thigh attached). Our chickens are Certified Organic, Pasture-Raised, and are the best of the best flavor-wise. We are a small farm that is dedicated to respectfully raising animals in the cleanest, healthiest, and most environmentally-conscious way possible. Taste what chicken is meant to be. Each package includes four bone-in, skin-on thighs.
